It is the first shrine or Buddhist temple visit of the New Year in Japan.
Of course my family visit the shrine near our house every year.
Many visit on the first, second, or third day of the year as most are off work on those days.
The purpose is to pray for happiness and good health in the coming year.
And many people also draw sacred lots to learn their fortune for the new year.
Lucky me! The fortune said that I'll have excellent luck! I think a lot of good things are coming this new year!!
